If you are looking for a way to have fun this summer, what could be better than a ride across the heart of Dixie on your motorcycle? Alabama is a beautiful state, full of gorgeous southern scenery and friendly folks. Here are three drives that should be on the bucket list of any serious biker.
1. Central
One of the smoothest and most unpopulated roads in Alabama is Highway 22 from Clanton to Roanoke. Be sure to pack snacks, because stores are few and far between along the way. One perk of this 91-mile west to east trip through the middle of the state is that if you do happen to experience engine trouble, friendly motorcycle towing Prattville AL is just a phone call away.
2. Northern
Loop roads are the best, because the scenery is always changing. Try this beautiful drive along the Tennessee River and through Lake Guntersville State Park, famous for its bass and crappie fishing. To enjoy these 79 miles of spectacular scenery, start in Rainsville, head south on Highway 75, go north on 227, north on 79, and south on 35 back to where you began.
3. Southern
While lacking twists and turns, this coastal highway trip affords unforgettable views of the Gulf of Mexico. To begin, find highway 90 in Tillmans Corner and head west. Once you hit the Alabama border you can continue on through part of Louisiana and into Mississippi. Stop and gamble at the Biloxi casinos, or keep the ocean breeze in your hair as you ride on.
Remember, Alabama law requires drivers and passengers of motorcycles to wear helmets. While it may seem inconvenient if you come from a state where it is not required, protective gear can save your life. Be safe and have fun while exploring the Yellowhammer State.
